New Era in Brain Surgery: First Operations with NaoTrac at Medizinische Universität Lausitz – Carl Thiem
2025-09-19

Cottbus, Germany – The first surgeries with the neurosurgical navigation robot NaoTrac have now been successfully started at the Medizinische Universität Lausitz – Carl Thiem.

Under the leadership of Prof. Dr. med. Ehab Shiban, an internationally recognized neurosurgeon and Director of the Department of Neurosurgery, the university is positioning itself as one of Germany’s leading centers for innovative neurosurgery. With NaoTrac, the Medizinische Universität Lausitz – Carl Thiem is taking a pioneering role in robotic neurosurgery.

For patients, this means new chances: the facial recognition approach supported by NaoTrac’s patent technology SMART allows for greater precision, smaller incisions, faster recoveries, and fewer complications. NaoTrac enhances the surgeon’s capabilities — enabling delicate procedures to be carried out with the highest degree of safety and reliability.

The technology combines advanced robotic navigation with AI and machine vision, assisting neurosurgeons in reaching even the most challenging areas of the brain with consistent accuracy. This marks a decisive step toward the future of brain surgery, where technology supports doctors in delivering the best possible outcomes for patients.
