As Taiwan’s ageing population grows rapidly, cities and counties are rolling out innovative strategies to address the diverse needs of older adults in daily living, healthcare, and lifelong learning. At this year’s Healthy Ageing Tech Show, the Age-Friendly Cities Pavilion drew significant attention, showcasing interactive exhibits, smart technology applications, and local service achievements that reflect Taiwan’s efforts to build an elder-friendly society. From smart healthcare and long-term care innovation to active ageing learning and lifestyle experiences, the exhibition demonstrated how cities are taking forward-looking actions to support ageing well.
Taipei City – From Daily Life to Innovation: Building a Safe and Vibrant Capital for Ageing
Taipei presented comprehensive age-friendly initiatives spanning lifestyle, learning, healthcare, and industrial innovation. The pavilion featured urban walks, hands-on workshops, senior learning programs, employment support, and long-term care services, shaping a secure and active lifestyle for older adults. Ten innovative companies showcased AI diagnostics, wearable devices, and AR interactive applications. Daily programs included beauty seminars, fitness sessions, and industry presentations, offering a lively and engaging atmosphere.
New Taipei City – Smart Tech at Home for More Comfortable Senior Living
New Taipei focused on integrating real-life needs with digital applications, presenting smart home designs, health management technologies, and lifelong learning tools. From bathroom safety aids to AI health monitoring and VR job interview simulations, the exhibits catered to older adults’ daily living and re-employment needs. The city also offered limited giveaways and a “stamp mission × capsule toy draw,” where participants completing activities and surveys could win eco-bags, pill organizers, and other practical gifts.
Taoyuan City – Immersive Experiences for Imagining More Options in Later Life
Taoyuan’s pavilion emphasized “experiential displays,” including smart care environment simulations (smart mattresses, sensors), free health checks (bone density, muscle strength), consultations, fitness sessions, and craft workshops. Visitors could also experience Taoyuan’s age-friendly walking trails through VR, encouraging reflection on diverse possibilities for ageing life.
Taichung City – Integrated Care Campus and Smart Robots Redefining Elder Care
Taichung highlighted the blueprint for its new Municipal Geriatric Rehabilitation Hospital’s Integrated Smart Care Campus, combining acute medicine, long-term care, preventive healthcare, and digital health into a comprehensive elder-care system. A smart care robot, set to launch in September, was introduced with functions such as wayfinding, interactive companionship, and health reminders. The robot will be used in outpatient clinics and wards to improve communication and patient experience, representing a new model of elder care that merges technology with compassion.
Tainan City – Blending Technology and Community for Healthy Active Ageing
Tainan showcased achievements in integrating technology and community care, including home healthcare, AI stroke prevention, dementia board games, community-based care models, and silver-friendly policies. Stage activities featured health talks, exercise sessions, and senior performances, embodying the spirit of active ageing.
Kaohsiung City – Making Health Monitoring Fun with Interactive Games
Kaohsiung presented Healthy Kaohsiung 4.0, simulating the process of “starting with a QR code scan, completing measurements, and receiving results.” Screening covered dementia, depression, sarcopenia, swallowing function, and basic metrics like blood pressure, body fat, and grip strength. Interactive activities included cycling competitions to generate electricity, dance challenges, and quiz games combining exercise, health, and sustainability.
