Taiwan’s Big Three Telecom Operators Push into Telemedicine
2025-09-11

One year after the amendment of the “Telemedicine Act” came into effect, Taiwan’s three major telecom operators—Chunghwa Telecom, Far EasTone, and Taiwan Mobile—are aggressively expanding into telemedicine. With the Ministry of Health and Welfare broadening applications for home-based acute and critical care, remote emergency consultations, and home hemodialysis, telecom companies are now preparing to fully integrate AI applications such as symptom interpretation, care documentation, and predictive models.

Chunghwa Telecom stated that it has independently developed the “SynDr. Telemedicine Video Platform,” which integrates cloud-based real-time recording, meets cybersecurity standards, and closely mirrors in-person clinical workflows. In addition to enabling remote video consultations, the platform can be applied to home-based acute care. Its self-developed “Remote Patient Monitoring (RPM) System” collaborates with community healthcare teams, using AIoT physiological monitoring devices to create interactive multi-party models that enhance the quality of home care.

Chunghwa Telecom has also been actively forming cross-industry alliances. Together with SHAREHOPE MEDICINE’s subsidiary Han Ding Digital Technology and KGI Bank, it has developed the “Health-online Teleconsultation System for Taiwan’s Primary Clinics.” It has further joined forces with the Taiwan Medical Association, E.SUN Bank, and AboCom Systems to establish the “Healthy Taiwan Smart Healthcare Alliance.”

Far EasTone, leveraging its “BIG” technologies (Big Data, AI, IoT), has independently developed the “5G Telemedicine Platform,” which breaks geographical barriers and expands services from rural areas to urban centers, improving both accessibility and efficiency of medical resources. Through a single cloud platform, it connects 22 major hospitals and supports more than seven multi-specialty medical services, creating a continuum of care. The platform has also entered overseas markets, extending services to Palau and Indonesia.

Far EasTone is also investing in home-based acute care programs and has introduced the “Health+ Far EasTone Cloud HIS” cloud-based healthcare information system for primary care institutions. The system consolidates patients’ physiological data and electronic medical records on a single platform, enhancing diagnostic efficiency for physicians.

Taiwan Mobile, meanwhile, is drawing on its enterprise communications and AI expertise to create smart medical communication solutions. These tools support healthcare institutions in adapting to the new normal of telemedicine by strengthening interdepartmental communication, doctor-patient collaboration, and voice documentation processes.

According to Taiwan Mobile, its efforts are anchored in the M+ Enterprise Communication Solution, which drives digital transformation in healthcare communications.
