Heron Neutron Medical announced that its board of directors has approved a proposal to invest up to US$30 million of its own funds in BenQ BM Holding Cayman (BBHC), a subsidiary of Qisda and parent company of BenQ Medical Group. Industry observers believe the investment will strengthen collaboration between the two parties in establishing Accelerator-Based Boron Neutron Capture Therapy (AB-BNCT) Centers, while also accelerating Heron Neutron Medical’s progress in obtaining drug and medical device certifications in China.

BenQ Medical Group, under BBHC, operates two private for-profit general hospitals. According to data, the group ranked as the largest private for-profit general hospital group in East China by total revenue in 2023, holding a 1.1% regional market share and ranking seventh nationwide with a 0.4% market share. It also ranked first among all private for-profit general hospital groups in mainland China in revenue per bed for 2023. In 2024, the group reported RMB 2.659 billion in revenue and RMB 109 million in profit.

In August this year, Heron Neutron Medical signed a collaboration agreement with BenQ Medical Group to jointly establish AB-BNCT centers. The newly approved US$30 million investment aims to further strengthen this strategic partnership and solidify long-term cooperation between the two sides.

Analysts noted that BenQ Medical Group has a strong presence in China’s healthcare sector, with over 20 years of experience in medical service operations and extensive clinical expertise. As a revenue-generating and profitable company, it is also in the process of applying for a Hong Kong Stock Exchange listing. Heron Neutron Medical’s investment is expected to deepen bilateral collaboration, facilitating Heron’s regulatory approvals for drugs and medical devices in China and supporting its local market expansion efforts.
