SYSCOM COMPUTER ENGINEERING Teams Up with ASIA OPTICAL to Launch Fully MIT-Made Intelligent Nursing Robot
2025-12-09

Veteran system integrator SYSCOM COMPUTER ENGINEERING (SYSCOM) has been developing service robots for several years, with a focus on the healthcare industry. Yesterday, SYSCOM announced a collaboration with optics giant ASIA OPTICAL to jointly develop a 100% Taiwan-made mobile intelligent nursing robot, which is currently undergoing validation.

SYSCOM also showcased a complete AI ecosystem. With Taiwan entering a super-aged society in 2025, facing challenges such as a declining birthrate and shortages in healthcare personnel, the Ministry of Health and Welfare has promoted the “Next-Generation Digital Healthcare Information Platform Project” to establish a unified and intelligent medical information infrastructure.

Under the guidance of the Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI), SYSCOM is participating in this initiative. Leveraging its strong system integration capabilities, SYSCOM focused on the most time-consuming aspects of nursing—admission assessments, nursing records, and shift handovers—to successfully develop the Syscom Nursing AI assistant, achieving tangible results in demonstration settings at municipal hospitals.

SYSCOM further explained that the collaboration with ASIA OPTICAL integrates the Syscom Nursing AI assistant, SYSCOM’s robotics development experience, and a multi-site deployable autonomous mobile platform. ASIA OPTICAL provides the robot’s mobile base, while SYSCOM integrates the robot with software to assist with basic clinical tasks such as medication delivery.

James Liu, General Manager of SYSCOM, stated that the collaboration represents an evolution of SYSCOM’s AI applications and robotics in healthcare. By combining ASIA OPTICAL’s 100% locally made autonomous mobile base, the project demonstrates MIT-level technological capabilities. Looking ahead, SYSCOM plans to continue promoting AI agents to empower diverse applications in healthcare settings, fully supporting the government’s “AI New Technology—Intelligent Robot Project” to accelerate the domestic deployment and application of locally made robots.

Tai-Lang Lin, General Manager of ASIA OPTICAL, noted that the company has been actively expanding into areas including optical communications, AR/VR, and automotive cameras for autonomous vehicles, while also advancing AMR (Autonomous Mobile Robot) technology. With strong R&D capabilities in optical sensing, LiDAR, and ADC control technologies, ASIA OPTICAL is confident in the collaboration. SYSCOM also emphasized that ASIA OPTICAL’s breakthroughs in AMR technology and modular mass production make it a key partner in driving the localization of robotics.
