Multiple International Medical Institutions Form Delegations to Visit Taiwan for the First Time
2026-01-04

The upcoming Healthcare Expo Taiwan, scheduled for early December, will for the first time host large-scale delegations of global hospital representatives. Preliminary statistics show that ten international industry associations and five international hospital associations are making their debut visits to Taiwan. Notably, the largest EU private hospital alliance, representing 6,000 member hospitals, will attend. Additionally, hospital associations from Portugal, Austria, Greece, and Belgium will participate, engaging in in-depth technical exchanges with Taiwanese hospitals and the biomedical industry.

Chou Jih-haw, newly appointed CEO of the Institute for Biotechnology and Medicine Industry (生策會), stated that this year’s expo has entered the stage of an “international hospital interchange platform.” Taiwan’s smart hospital systems, clinical orientation, and system integration capabilities have become benchmarks for healthcare institutions worldwide. Delegations from Japan and the South Pacific are also visiting for the first time, demonstrating strong interest in Taiwan’s medical technology across the Asian region.

Chou highlighted that global healthcare workforce shortages are intensifying, while Taiwan’s adoption of smart hospital solutions has already delivered tangible results. These include smart wards and intelligent bed systems, automated nurse shift handovers saving 1.5 hours per shift, hospital-wide real-time physiological monitoring platforms, AI-assisted imaging interpretation and clinical decision support, and optimized healthcare workforce management systems. Taiwan’s integrated smart healthcare solutions have drawn attention in countries such as Thailand and Malaysia, making them a key focus for international buyers.

To align with global innovation trends, the pre-expo “Innovation Award” on December 3 will focus on two forward-looking areas: AI-driven drug development platforms and micro-medical robotics. International venture capitalists and startup companies will be invited to Taiwan to exchange ideas, showcasing the R&D capabilities of the biomedical industry while facilitating opportunities for international collaboration.

Allen Wu, Chief Operating Officer of the Institute for Biotechnology and Medicine Industry, emphasized that Taiwan cannot limit itself to domestic markets but must align with global future directions.

Healthcare Expo Taiwan is not only Asia’s largest medical industry platform but also a bridge for global medical innovation and procurement. Leveraging its strengths in smart healthcare, ICT integration, and clinical applications, Taiwan is stepping onto the global stage as a key hub for medical technology innovation.
