2026-05-05

On March 10, President Lai Ching-te received the winning teams of the 28th National Biotechnology and Medical Care Quality Awards at the Presidential Office. The delegation was led by Wang Jin-pyng, Chairman of the Research Center for Biotechnology and Medicine Policy (RBMP), representing the pinnacle of Taiwan’s clinical innovation and healthcare quality.

  • Clinical Breakthroughs: This year, 18 medical achievements were honored. Highlights include Taipei Veterans General Hospital’s Boron Neutron Capture Therapy (BNCT) and Kaohsiung Chang Gung’s head and neck tumor ablation. Notably, five award-winning innovations have led to international clinical guidelines, with three adopted by the WHO and incorporated into global medical textbooks.
  • Smart Healthcare: Innovations such as Chi Mei Hospital’s molecular pathology system and NTU Hospital’s National Eye Bank were recognized for integrating AI and advanced diagnostics into frontline care.
  • International Strategy: Chairman Wang reported that the SNQ (Symbol of National Quality) system is moving toward global standardization. Following a landmark agreement between RBMP and ICHOM (International Consortium for Health Outcomes Measurement) late last year, the SNQ system will now align Taiwan’s original quality metrics with international health outcome indicators to increase global visibility.
