On the 19th, Locus Cell announced the signing of a CDMO (Contract Development and Manufacturing Organization) agreement with CellFiber, a leading regenerative medicine company in Japan. Under the agreement, Locus Cell will support the production of clinical-grade products, with the total value estimated to exceed tens of millions of New Taiwan dollars. With the company’s fully automated GMP-compliant smart facility in Zhubei set to be completed by the end of the year, Locus Cell expects to seamlessly scale up to mass production and sees strong potential for expanding its CDMO business.
This collaboration will leverage CellFiber’s technology for the manufacturing of clinical-grade products, with CellFiber commissioning Locus Cell to perform large-scale cell therapy manufacturing. The goal is to build a CDMO process capable of mass production and automation, creating a platform that delivers large-scale, efficient, and cost-effective cell manufacturing. This approach addresses key challenges in Asia’s current cell therapy landscape, which still relies heavily on manual, small-scale production—leading to high costs and difficulties in quality control.
Hen-Yu Liu, CTO of Locus Cell, noted that regenerative medicine has long struggled with the inability to efficiently produce high-quality, specification-compliant cells at scale, limiting its widespread adoption. The partnership with CellFiber is expected to break through these limitations by significantly reducing manufacturing costs, thus advancing the accessibility of regenerative therapies. The collaboration also demonstrates Locus Cell’s capabilities in process development, GMP compliance, and automated large-scale production—supporting more startups and pharmaceutical companies in advancing their cell therapies to the clinical stage.
Chairman Chiu Chun-Jung emphasized that global regenerative medicine is reaching a pivotal point, transitioning toward industrialization and automated mass production. Locus Cell aims to serve not just individual clients, but also meet the pressing demand from the global regenerative medicine industry for CDMO solutions.
Locus Cell added that its soon-to-be-completed GMP smart factory in Zhubei will be equipped to handle both small-volume customized orders and large-scale production. This will allow the company to aggressively expand its CDMO operations and establish a compliant, internationally aligned cell therapy manufacturing platform for its partners around the world—positioning Taiwan as a critical hub for global cell therapy development and production.
