Leadtek Biomed, a biotech subsidiary of Leadtek, recently raised NT$100 million in capital and brought in high-profile strategic partners. Memory giant ADATA acquired a 41% stake, becoming the largest shareholder. ADATA Chairman Simon Chen has taken over as Chairman of Leadtek Biomed from Leadtek’s Chairman K.S. Lu. The company registration update was completed at the end of June.
Leadtek Biomed has been the primary focus of K.S. Lu’s business development in recent years. Especially following investments by Supermicro subsidiaries Grand Tech and Compuware, and the appointment of Grand Tech Chairman’s son, Allen Liang, as General Manager, there has been a sense of transition in Leadtek’s AI business. Leadtek Biomed, seen as Lu’s new "golden egg," has steadily progressed and is now heading toward an IPO.
Leadtek Biomed was spun off as an independent entity on January 1 this year. In May, it launched a new round of fundraising totaling NT$100 million, increasing its paid-in capital to NT$201 million.
In addition to ADATA, other strategic investors in this capital increase include Cheng Mei Materials Technology and Chih-Sheng Chen, Chairman of Chaifu International, who invested in his personal capacity. According to the most recent corporate registration data, ADATA holds 8.2 million shares, accounting for 40.8% of the company. Leadtek’s shareholding has decreased from 100% to 25.4%, or 5.1 million shares. Cheng Mei and Chen Chih-Sheng each hold 3.2 million shares, or 15.92%, and K.S. Lu personally holds 124,000 shares.
Following this capital increase and board reshuffle, Leadtek Biomed now has a total of nine board members and supervisors: seven directors and two supervisors. ADATA, as the largest shareholder, occupies three board seats, with Simon Chen serving as Chairman.
It is understood that ADATA’s 41% stake came through both the capital increase and the purchase of a portion of existing shares from Leadtek. As part of the deal, Leadtek handed over the chairmanship to ADATA. K.S. Lu will now focus solely on his role as CEO, actively managing Leadtek Biomed’s operations. The company currently generates around NT$10 million in monthly revenue and aims to break even this year. Its three-year goal is to reach NT$600 million to NT$1 billion in annual revenue and complete its IPO.
