New Leadership at NTU Hospital Hsinchu Branch: Kuan-Yu Hung Returns as Superintendent, While Chong-Jen Yu Takes the Helm of the Main Hospital
2025-08-28

On the afternoon of the 1st, the Hsinchu Branch of National Taiwan University Hospital (NTUH) held a handover ceremony at its Zhubei campus. The event was personally overseen by Ming-Shiang Wu, Dean of the NTU College of Medicine. During the ceremony, newly appointed NTUH Superintendent Chong-Jen Yu formally passed the seal of office to Kuan-Yu Hung, officially completing the transition.

Kuan-Yu Hung, a graduate of NTU’s College of Medicine, holds both a Doctor of Clinical Medicine degree and an EMBA from the NTU College of Management. Specializing in nephrology, he has served in multiple leadership roles, including NTUH Vice Superintendent, Medical Secretary, and Director of the Quality Management Center. He also served as Vice President of Taipei Medical University while on secondment, combining deep medical expertise with extensive administrative experience.

From 2015 to 2020, Hung previously led the NTUH Hsinchu Branch, where he spearheaded the establishment of an advanced emergency and critical care system, a Cardiovascular Medicine Center, and intensive care units. He also strengthened smart healthcare initiatives and local medical networks, while actively fostering academic and research collaborations with National Tsing Hua University, National Chiao Tung University, the Industrial Technology Research Institute, and the National Health Research Institutes.

The ceremony was attended by Shan-Chwen Chang, NTU Vice President, and Ming-Shiang Wu, Dean of the College of Medicine, who both offered their congratulations and encouragement. Wu lightheartedly remarked that he saw himself as a “farm coach for the Yankees,” committed to cultivating top medical talents to contribute to Taiwan’s healthcare system.

In his farewell address, Chong-Jen Yu, who will now assume leadership of NTUH’s main hospital, reflected emotionally on his tenure. Taking charge of the Hsinchu Branch just before the COVID-19 pandemic, he successfully elevated it to a medical center while also developing the Biotech Hospital into a regional facility. He highlighted future projects such as the upcoming Nan-Ya campus in Hsinchu, expressed gratitude for his colleagues’ support, and shared that he has gained many lasting friendships over the past six years. He reassured staff and patients alike that he would still return regularly to Hsinchu for consultations.

In his inaugural remarks, Kuan-Yu Hung pledged to continue cultivating outstanding medical talent, improving healthcare quality, and delivering top-tier medical results locally—so that residents no longer need to travel to Taipei for care.

Hung emphasized that the NTUH Hsinchu Branch serves patients across southern Taoyuan, Hsinchu, and Miaoli. With rapid population growth and rising medical demand, the hospital will continue strengthening its role as the critical-care hub of north-central Taiwan, further advancing its responsibilities as a medical center hospital, and ensuring that local communities can access high-quality, timely, and comprehensive healthcare close to home.
