Andros Pharmaceuticals announced on the 7th that it has signed a co-development and licensing agreement with Yung Shin Pharmaceutical Industrial, establishing a long-term strategic partnership. Initially, the two companies will collaborate to develop a high-value, high-margin niche generic drug, with Taiwan as the first target market, and will subsequently explore opportunities to expand into international markets.
According to Andros, the jointly developed product is a topical formulation for the treatment of rosacea. Currently, no generic drugs containing the same active ingredient have been approved in Taiwan, providing an opportunity to obtain the country’s first generic drug approval in this category, capture early market share, and secure a portion of the branded drug market.
Under the agreement, Andros will leverage its expertise in innovative formulation technologies to lead drug development and production, including formulation design, analytical methods, GMP manufacturing processes, and IVRT (in vitro release testing) and IVPT (in vitro permeation testing) systems. Yung Shin will be responsible for regulatory submissions, drug approval applications, and post-launch marketing and sales.
Through this collaboration, Andros will receive an upfront payment, milestone payments tied to development progress, and a share of post-launch sales revenue. In addition, Yung Shin previously secured exclusive distribution rights in Taiwan for Andros’ PIMAREL Cream. Building on their complementary resources, both parties may continue to deepen their partnership to create mutually beneficial business opportunities.
AE-JUNE WANG, Chairperson of Andros Pharmaceuticals, noted that rosacea, also known as “acne rosacea” or “rosacea erythema,” is characterized by redness, swelling, papules, pustules, and flushing around the nasal area. Its etiology is complex, involving immune responses, vascular and neurological factors, UV exposure, environmental triggers, and demodex mites. As a chronic skin condition, rosacea is difficult to cure and prone to relapse.
According to a market research report by Global Information Inc. (GII), the global market for rosacea treatments is projected to reach USD 2.16 billion in 2025 and grow to USD 3.36 billion by 2032, representing a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 6.5%. The global average prevalence of rosacea is estimated at 5.46%, though rates vary by region and ethnicity. In Taiwan, the prevalence is about 1–5%, with women affected three times more frequently than men, highlighting significant market potential.
The drug under joint development by Andros and Yung Shin is a non-steroidal treatment. Clinical trials of the original branded drug have shown superior efficacy compared with conventional anti-inflammatory topical therapies and demonstrated reduced risks of side effects and resistance associated with oral medications.
