Foxconn Technology Group Brings Smart Medical Devices to Market, Partners with NOBEL to Launch CoDoctor Eye
2025-09-08

Foxconn Technology Group is taking its next step in smart healthcare. Barry Chlang, General Manager of the B Business Group, announced yesterday that the company has partnered with NOBEL Eyewear to launch the CoDoctor Eye fundus photography device. This device reduces the size of traditional 40-kg equipment to just 700 grams, successfully transforming a hospital-bound diagnostic tool into a portable digital health solution, marking a milestone for Foxconn’s smart healthcare products moving from R&D to practical application.

Barry Chlang stated that the product embodies the concept of “sovereign AI,” with medical models capable of running from edge to cloud and cloud to edge, highlighting Taiwan’s exemplary value in “AI × Digital Health.” He emphasized that Foxconn represents ICT and data science, while NOBEL represents medical expertise. Their collaboration merges Taiwan’s two strongest capabilities—Data Science and Medical Science—paving the way for the real-world implementation of digital health solutions.

He further noted that smart healthcare plays a critical role in Foxconn’s long-term strategy. Within Chairman Liu Yang-wei’s “3+3+3” strategic layout, digital health is a key pillar in the first “3,” alongside robotics as a core focus for future development. In the medical application field, nursing robots are already a focal product, and the combination of digital health and robotics is expected to serve as dual engines driving innovation in the healthcare industry.

Regarding the future of AI, Barry Chlang emphasized the clear distinction between medical models and large language models (LLMs). While LLMs are open models suitable for general applications, specialized medical needs require training with in-hospital data to ensure clinical relevance. He explained that AI’s core elements are “computing power, algorithms, and data,” with data being the most critical. Taiwan’s hospitals possess rich, high-quality medical databases, and combined with the ICT industry’s data science capabilities, this enables the development of AI medical models infused with Taiwanese intelligence.

“This is not only a technological breakthrough but also a key component of Foxconn’s AI healthcare blueprint,” Chlang stressed. He added that the CoDoctor AI assistance system can support physicians in diagnosis, demonstrating the real-world value of AI in healthcare. Foxconn will continue to advance digital health and AI medical model applications, positioning Taiwan as a significant player in the global smart healthcare industry.
