Mycenax Biotech announced on October 6 that it has signed a non-binding term sheet with Japanese strategic partners Alfresa, Kidswell, and Chiome. The four parties will actively discuss the establishment of a joint venture in Japan, aiming to build a GMP production base for biopharmaceuticals with both drug substance (DS) and drug product (DP) capabilities, as well as to launch CDMO and distribution operations for biopharmaceuticals.
Mycenax stated that this joint venture initiative is aligned with the Japanese Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare’s Biopharmaceutical Manufacturing Facility Subsidy Program, which seeks to establish a stable domestic supply system for biosimilars. The three Japanese partners have received subsidy approvals, with Mycenax serving as a key collaborator in this program.
The joint venture will leverage the complementary strengths of the four companies: Alfresa’s extensive pharmaceutical distribution network, Kidswell’s experience in biosimilar development, Chiome’s biopharmaceutical R&D capabilities, and Mycenax Biotech’s expertise in biopharmaceutical process development, manufacturing, and CDMO services. The goal is to establish a representative biopharmaceutical CDMO company in Japan.
Mycenax Biotech Chairperson Pei-Chun Chen stated that the alliance with the three Japanese companies supports the Japanese government’s initiative to localize biopharmaceutical production. The aim is to deepen Mycenax’s market presence in Japan and provide clients with comprehensive production base options.
Mycenax currently serves as a commercial supplier for two internationally marketed biopharmaceuticals. Through this non-binding term sheet with strategic partners, the company is advancing its plan to establish a biopharmaceutical production base in Japan, while continuing to focus on technological innovation and global market expansion to strengthen its international competitiveness.
