Biogate Co. Ltd., backed by Powerchip Group founder Frank Huang, has received clearance from both the U.S. FDA and Taiwan TFDA to initiate Phase 1 clinical trials for BGM-2121. This is a world-first monoclonal antibody targeting PTHrP (Parathyroid Hormone-related Protein).
Scientific Breakthrough:
- The Target: PTHrP is a "master driver" in highly malignant solid tumors (pancreatic, lung, and esophageal cancers). It promotes tumor invasion, triggers malignant hypercalcemia, and induces cachexia (rapid muscle/fat loss).
- Strategy: BGM-2121 utilizes a "ligand neutralization" strategy. It intercepts PTHrP before it can bind to its receptor, blocking tumor progression and systemic complications without affecting normal physiological PTH function.
- Clinical Timeline: The Phase 1 trial aims to enroll 30 patients, with completion targeted for late 2025. Syncore plans to list on the Emerging Stock Market in Q3 2025.
- Vision: Frank Huang, who holds a PhD in medicine, emphasized that BGM-2121 addresses the "upstream" drivers of cancer. He stated that while semiconductors are a business, biotechnology is his true passion, and he intends to focus more deeply on the life sciences sector.
