Microsoft Fabric Integrates with Local Data Centers; TBMC Builds Real-World Data Platform
2026-04-11

Built on Microsoft Azure, the Microsoft Fabric data analytics platform establishes a secure, trusted health data environment for hospitals, accelerating the clinical integration of predictive and generative AI.

Taiwan Health and BioData Bank Technology Co., Ltd. (THBC)—a joint venture between ASUS and the National Health Research Institutes (NHRI)—partnered with Microsoft Taiwan at the Taiwan Healthcare+ Expo to host the "Real-World Data Driven Clinical Innovation" forum. They announced the creation of a "human-centric" Real-World Data (RWD) platform leveraging Microsoft Fabric, localized compliance via Microsoft’s regional data centers in Taiwan, and the FHIR (Fast Healthcare Interoperability Resources) international standard.

Technical and Strategic Significance:

  • Addressing Data Fragmentation: While clinical trials remain the "gold standard," they often fail to reflect real-world complexities. TBMC’s platform utilizes Microsoft Fabric to consolidate fragmented hospital data, providing a unified view of the patient journey.
  • Compliance and Sovereignty: To meet Taiwan's regulatory requirement that electronic medical records (EMR) remain in-country, Microsoft Fabric operates within Microsoft’s Taiwan regional data centers. This ensures data sovereignty and privacy through Azure landing zone configurations customized for hospital-specific security protocols.
  • Zero-Trust Validation: Microsoft Azure is currently the only international public cloud to pass the National Institute of Cyber Security’s (NICS) Zero-Trust architecture verification for "Identity" and "Device" authentication.
  • Policy Support: The platform supports the National Health Insurance (NHI) Administration’s "tiered medical care" and "capitation" (pay-per-person) models by enabling the real-time exchange of images and records, reducing redundant examinations and costs.
