The Ministry of Economic Affairs (MOEA), in collaboration with the National Development Council (NDC) and the National Science and Technology Council (NSTC), has officially inaugurated the Smart Robotics Innovation and Application R&D Center at the Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI) Liujia Campus. The center will focus on the integration and validation of critical robotics technologies, aggressively targeting four vertical application fields: Medical Care, Logistics and Warehousing, Food and Beverage Services, and Inspection and Disaster Relief. It aims to serve as a pivotal hub connecting international startups with domestic industrial and research ecosystems.

• The Southern AI Golden Triangle: The center will structurally connect the NSTC’s "Smart Robotics Research Center" in Tainan Shalun and the "Smart Robotics Industrial Cluster" in Tainan Liuying. This architecture establishes Tainan's "AI Industrial Golden Triangle," positioning Taiwanese manufacturers to penetrate the global robotics supply chain.
• Capital and Operational Allocation: As part of the government’s "New Ten Major AI Constructions" initiative and the Executive Yuan-approved "Smart Robotics Industry Promotion Program," the Department of Industrial Technology (DoIT) under the MOEA has allocated NT$3 billion over a four-year framework to fund ITRI's deployment of the center.
• Three Strategic Core Dimensions:
1. Vertical Field Validation: Providing system integration, AI perception/decision-making, key module development, and site validation for service robots to bridge the gap between R&D and commercial deployment.
2. Early Industrial Integration: Engaging enterprises from initial technology phases to co-design commercial business models, accelerating product commercialization.
3. Upgrading the Supply Chain Value: Transmitting Taiwanese manufacturers from pure component suppliers into global exporters of complete turn-key solutions.
• The "Sandbox Evidentiary" and "Startup Accelerator" Blueprint: Operating as a high-tier incubator, the center provides exclusive incubation spaces equipped with advanced GPU computing clusters. These assets can simultaneously simulate complex digital twins, real-time ray-tracing rendering, and multiple Universal Scene Description (USD) large-scale environments. On the corporate development front, the center will assist teams with corporate structuring, commercial positioning, and matching with industry investors alongside National Development Fund venture capital resources to scale domestic startups into medium-to-large-scale corporations.
