Massive Shake-Up in Q1 2026 Biopharma EPS Rankings: Contact Lens Leaders Dominate as Legacy CDMO Giants Drop Out of Top 10
2026-05-19

Taiwan's biotechnology sector experienced an unprecedented realignment in its Q1 2026 earnings leaderboard. Legacy high-margin leaders, including Bora Pharmaceuticals and Lotus Pharmaceutical (美時), both dropped out of the top ten in quarterly Earnings Per Share (EPS). Furthermore, previous high-performers such as St. Shine Optical (精華), Syngen Biotech (生展), Formosa Optical (寶島科), United Orthopedic (聯合骨科), Pacific Hospital Supply (太醫), Syn-Tech (生泰), and Intai Technology (鐿鈦) all failed to secure a spot in the top 20 list.

  • The Top Tier: Pegavision (晶碩) claimed the overall net profit crown with a commanding EPS of NT$6.06, driven by surging global demand for silicone hydrogel contact lenses. PharmaEssentia (藥華藥) followed closely as the pharmaceutical sector leader with a record-high EPS of NT$5.79.
  • Sector Highlights:
    • Aesthetics & AgBio: Sunmax (雙美) doubled its net profit year-over-year, delivering an EPS of NT$4.07 to dominate the medical aesthetics group. Agrochemical innovator CH Biotech (正瀚-創) hit an EPS of NT$4.15, breaking into the top three biopharma profit positions for the first time.
    • Vision Care and Refractive Surgery: The contact lens cohort emerged as the quarter's primary winner, with St. Shine, Visco (視陽), and Vizionfocus (望隼) capturing three of the top five positions, maintaining an EPS floor of NT$3.66. Refractive surgery leader Universal Vision Biotechnology  (大學光) ranked sixth with an EPS of NT$3.31.
  • Conglomerate Rebounds: Cenra Inc.  (中化控股) reaped the rewards of its recent holding-structure reorganization, hitting a 15-quarter high with an EPS of NT$1.57 (+69% YoY). Its manufacturing subsidiary, CCSB (中化生), bounced back with an EPS of NT$1.64 after clearing out fish-oil inventory valuation losses that plagued its 2025 margins. Standard Chem & Pharm (生達) logged a steady EPS of NT$1.30.
  • Clinical Catalyst: Alongside its record earnings, market leader PharmaEssentia received an official approval letter from Taiwan’s MOHW for its flagship therapeutic, Ropeg (Ropeginterferon alfa-2b), expanding its label indication to treat adult patients with Essential Thrombocythemia (ET) who exhibit resistance or intolerance to hydroxyurea.
