Taiwanese medical technology company Flat Medical has been steadily advancing both technologically and commercially in the global anesthesia and pain management sector in recent years. Since entering mass production and sales in 2023, its flagship product, the EpiFaith® smart locator, has experienced rapid growth with an annual increase of 3 to 4 times in sales volume. Cumulative shipments have surpassed tens of thousands of units, establishing a solid presence across key markets including Europe, the United States, Japan, South Korea, and Taiwan.
Flat Medical has successfully secured contracts with the three major U.S. Group Purchasing Organizations (GPOs): Premier’s Breakthrough Technology Procurement, Vizient’s Innovative Technology Procurement, and the Federal Supply Schedule contract with the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). These agreements provide a strong foundation for large-scale adoption of its products by American healthcare institutions.
Clinically, EpiFaith® has shown outstanding performance. Midterm data from a large-scale clinical trial in collaboration with Brigham and Women’s Hospital, affiliated with Harvard University, demonstrated statistically significant improvements in reducing epidural puncture errors and associated side effects. Additionally, the product has been incorporated into medical education materials by the European Society of Regional Anaesthesia (ESRA) and the German Society of Anaesthesiology and Intensive Care Medicine (DGAI), underscoring its practical value and potential as a clinical standard.
Acquisition of Finnish InjeQ Brings Breakthrough Medical Device Technology
In terms of product line expansion, Flat Medical recently acquired assets from Finland’s InjeQ, obtaining the IQ-Tip® smart system, the world’s first FDA-designated breakthrough medical device for bioimpedance-guided needle positioning. This cutting-edge technology injects significant growth momentum into Flat Medical’s anesthesia and pain localization product portfolio.
Beyond existing products, the second-generation EpiFaith CV has initiated collaborative research with several leading U.S. medical schools. Earlier this year, Flat Medical signed a research and development contract with the U.S. Naval Trauma Research Center to explore applications of the technology in battlefield and extreme environments. Furthermore, the company continues to deepen its long-standing partnership with German medical device giant B. Braun and is engaging in strategic evaluations and clinical trials with multiple international enterprises.
Flat Medical recently received the U.S. Premier Innovation Award, standing alongside global industry leaders such as Siemens Healthineers, Stryker, and Vertex Pharmaceuticals, highlighting Taiwan’s innovative strength on the international medical technology stage.
Dr. Wen-Fu Lo, CEO of Flat Medical, stated that the company will continue focusing on innovation in anesthesia and pain management, integrating evidence-based research, multinational collaborations, and product expansion to provide healthcare professionals worldwide with safer and more precise clinical tools, thereby driving ongoing international growth and impact.
