BenQ Materials, a leading polarizer manufacturer, has been actively expanding its medical business in recent years. In the last quarter, revenue from its medical segment is expected to exceed 30% of total sales, helping to optimize the product mix and improve gross margin performance.

BenQ Materials’ main medical applications include its own brand of contact lenses, Miru, while its consumer medical skincare patch business has also been actively growing in Southeast Asian markets. Its professional medical segment, Anshikang, focuses on military-grade products and hemostatic cotton.

Additionally, BenQ Materials has extended into packaging and related fields through acquisitions, such as SIGMA Medical Equipment. Two years ago, the company invested NT$3.162 billion to acquire a 51% stake in WEB-PRO CORPORATION, a supplier of non-woven fabrics and functional PE films, further boosting its operational momentum.

BenQ Materials reported June revenue of NT$1.45 billion, up 3% month-over-month but down 16% year-over-year. Q2 revenue totaled NT$4.42 billion, decreasing 3.5% quarter-over-quarter and 3.6% year-over-year, mainly due to the sharp appreciation of the New Taiwan Dollar against the US Dollar. First-half revenue reached approximately NT$9 billion, down 2% year-over-year. The company’s stock closed at NT$22.85 yesterday, down NT$0.25.

Chairman Chen Chien-chih recently stated that medical product revenue accounted for about 30% in Q1, with a 10% year-over-year increase. The company aims to grow this to 20% for the full year. However, uncertainties in the macroeconomic environment, tariffs, and exchange rates continue to pose challenges to operations.
