Asia Pathogenomics Expands into Japan, Marking Global Milestone for Taiwan’s Leading Infectious Disease Diagnostics Company
2025-08-12

Asia Pathogenomics Co., Ltd. has officially established a Japanese subsidiary, APGアジア準訳ジャパン株式会社, in Tokyo as a key stepping stone for its expansion into the broader Asian market. The move aims to bring the company closer to Japan’s clinical needs while accelerating the application of metagenomic next-generation sequencing (mNGS) in infectious disease diagnostics, and deepening partnerships across both the medical and industrial sectors.

Specializing in genetic sequencing for infectious pathogens, Asia Pathogenomics’ mNGS technology enables the identification of over 27,000 pathogens within 24 to 48 hours, effectively overcoming the limitations of traditional diagnostic methods. Clinical data demonstrates that this technology can improve diagnostic accuracy by up to 62%, allowing physicians to identify causative pathogens quickly, initiate earlier interventions, and ultimately improve treatment outcomes and patient prognoses.

The newly established subsidiary will serve as a strategic hub for local technology promotion, regulatory planning, and medical collaboration, further facilitating bilateral integration of resources and innovation in healthcare. The company has already begun partnership discussions with local physicians, consultants, and distributors, and is planning clinical trials and regulatory approval processes to lay the groundwork for entering Japan’s clinical market.

The Tokyo office also signifies a significant milestone in the company’s internationalization strategy. In 2024, Asia Pathogenomics was selected for the Tokyo Metropolitan Government’s “Overseas Business Attraction Program in Partnership with Financial Institutions,” receiving up to 100 million JPY in support. This initiative, driven by Japan’s major financial institutions, identifies and nurtures promising overseas enterprises, selecting 8 out of 18 candidates for focused investment to foster deeper connections between foreign innovators and the local economy.

In addition to being a winner of the 20th National Innovation Award in Taiwan, Asia Pathogenomics was also selected to participate in the Tokyo Government’s 2025 SusHi Tech Challenge, an international innovation competition. Out of 657 global applicants, the company advanced to the semi-finals and received the Corporate Partner Award, a recognition of its technical capabilities and commercial potential in the infectious disease diagnostic field.

Leveraging its technical and clinical expertise, Asia Pathogenomics is also actively fostering medical technology exchange between Taiwan and Japan. Starting in early 2025, the company has supported multiple bilateral initiatives, including expert exchanges and collaborative forums. Taiwanese scholars have been invited to share practical experiences at Japanese medical societies in January, June, and July. Furthermore, the company will host the “International Summit on Infectious Disease Applications of Next-Generation Sequencing” on September 13, welcoming Japanese infectious disease experts to Taiwan for deeper collaboration in diagnostic innovation.

Looking ahead, Asia Pathogenomics remains committed to innovation and aims to accelerate the global deployment of mNGS technology. The company is poised to revolutionize the precision diagnosis and treatment of infectious diseases worldwide.
