Refusing to let foreign pharmaceutical companies take the lead, Elixiron Immunotherapeutics is developing Enrupatinib (code-named EI-1071), a microglia-modulating drug that targets brain immune regulation, primarily for treating Alzheimer’s disease. This novel drug has been recognized by the Global Neurodegeneration Proteomics Consortium, founded by Bill Gates, and has currently advanced into Phase II clinical trials.
Enrupatinib is a selective CSF-1R inhibitor with good brain penetration, specifically suppressing activated microglia while reducing the expression of neuroinflammation-related genes such as TREM2 and Iba1. At the same time, it preserves the normal function of microglia, achieving both pathological control and neuroprotection. In animal studies, Enrupatinib significantly reduced Aβ protein deposits and neuronal damage, while improving memory and cognitive performance in behavioral tests, demonstrating potential for reversing disease pathology.
This drug is expected to become an immune-modulating option with safety and long-term efficacy potential, complementing antibody therapies. Elixiron Immunotherapeutics recently completed pre-B and B rounds of fundraising, attracting investments from Alpha Capital, TaiAn Biotech, Qisda Group, and the international Lotte Holdings spanning Japan and South Korea. The nearly NT$1 billion raised will primarily fund the clinical development of this new drug.
