Inventec Appliances, a subsidiary of the Inventec Group, announced that its SmartMed Infusion System has been officially deployed at Chi-Mei Hospital, making it the first hospital in southern Taiwan to adopt this smart infusion solution. This initiative reflects Chi-Mei Hospital’s proactive approach to smart healthcare development and underscores its strong commitment to clinical medication safety and patient care quality.

Inventec Appliances stated that over 1,000 SmartMed infusion pumps will be installed across the Chi-Mei Medical System, including Yongkang Chi-Mei Hospital, Liuying Chi-Mei Hospital, and Jiali Chi-Mei Hospital. Integrated with the hospital’s medical information system, the solution enables closed-loop medication management: before infusion, the system cross-checks medications with patient wristbands to reduce human errors; during infusion, the pump’s operational status and alarms are displayed in real time; infusion records (I/O) and start times are automatically written back to the nursing information system, creating complete medication and nursing documentation. The system not only improves infusion safety but also enhances workflow efficiency.

Ching-An Tseng, Vice President of Inventec Appliances, said the deployment at Chi-Mei Hospital marks a significant milestone in the collaboration between the two organizations. He noted that over the past year, the SmartMed Infusion System has been successfully implemented in five major medical centers in northern Taiwan as well as multiple regional and district hospitals across the island. Internal evaluations from these hospitals have shown that the system significantly reduces medication errors and nursing labor hours, and he expressed confidence that Chi-Mei Hospital will similarly benefit in terms of patient safety and nursing efficiency.

Chi-Mei Hospital acknowledged that introducing a new system inevitably faces initial challenges, including adapting to existing workflows and usage habits. However, with comprehensive training and on-site support from the Inventec Appliances team, combined with clinical adjustments for interface and workflow customization, the deployment has been smoothly integrated into daily operations. The SmartMed Infusion System strengthens medication safety from the source, promotes smart medication management, and provides a more robust foundation for clinical care teams.
