Applied Biocode Corp. (ABC-KY) reported nearly 30% year-on-year revenue growth in the first half of 2025 but still posted a net loss of NT$103 million, equivalent to a loss of NT$1 per share. Management noted that a leading U.S. molecular diagnostics laboratory will begin adopting more of the company’s flagship products in the second half, alongside phased purchases of multiple MDx3000 fully automated molecular diagnostic systems, expected to provide significant growth momentum. Its new “STI+AMR” (Sexually Transmitted Infections plus Antimicrobial Resistance) assay is currently undergoing testing with three major clients and could enter routine clinical use before the end of the year.
ABC-KY reported H1 revenue of NT$235 million, up nearly 30% year-on-year. Gross profit reached NT$134 million, an increase of 18.5%. Net loss narrowed 8.7% compared with the prior year.
In operational terms, revenue reached US$7.41 million, up 29.1% year-on-year. The in-vitro diagnostics (IVD) segment contributed US$4.02 million, growing 20%, while the veterinary diagnostics segment contributed US$3.39 million, up 41.8%, with both business lines showing solid expansion.
Gross margin stood at 57%, down from 61.9% a year earlier, primarily due to a higher proportion of instrument sales in the revenue mix. However, management highlighted that increased instrument placements will drive future reagent and consumables revenue.
Addressing concerns over U.S. tariff impacts, ABC-KY emphasized that all products supplied to the U.S. market are manufactured domestically in the U.S. and therefore unaffected. Rising upstream raw material costs have prompted necessary price adjustments, but the company stated it has already reached agreements with clients to implement price increases while maintaining competitive pricing advantages.
Looking ahead to the second half, management expects momentum from cooperation with a leading U.S. molecular diagnostics laboratory, which plans to adopt flagship assays including the 17-target Gastrointestinal Pathogen Panel (GPP), the 7-in-1 COVID-19 and Influenza Panel (Cov-Flu-Plus), and the 20-target Respiratory Pathogen Panel (RPP). In addition, the lab is expected to purchase multiple MDx3000 instruments to support its large-scale infectious disease testing needs, providing strong revenue drivers and paving the way toward profitability.
On the commercialization front, the STI+AMR panel is positioned as the first-of-its-kind diagnostic capable of detecting both sexually transmitted infections and first-line drug resistance in a single test. This innovation allows laboratories to incorporate resistance data directly into diagnostic reports, enabling physicians to tailor more effective treatment strategies.
