Taiwan’s SNQ Certification Goes Global, Setting Asia-Pacific Standards with ICHOM
2026-03-31

On December 6, during the Asia-Pacific Forum on Quality and Safety in Healthcare, SNQ Chief Coordinator Chen Wei-chao and ICHOM CEO Jennifer L. Bright signed a cooperation agreement. This makes the Taiwan-originated SNQ certification the first ICHOM partner in Asia.

Strategic Impact:

  • Global Recognition: Liu Yue-ping, Director of the Department of Medical Affairs, stated that this partnership aligns Taiwan’s quality mechanisms with international standards. The forum hosted global experts, including Dr. David Bates (Chairman of the Newsweek World's Best Hospitals committee) and leaders from The University of Tokyo Hospital and Singapore General Hospital (SGH).
  • Defining Excellence: Since 1998, SNQ has certified over 2,900 items across specialized medicine, nursing, and long-term care. Among these, 16 medical achievements—including liver transplantation, pancreatic cancer surgery, craniofacial reconstruction, and gene therapy for rare diseases—have been rated "World-Leading" (Gold Award) by SNQ, subsequently influencing global standard-of-care guidelines and textbooks.
  • The PROMs Standard: ICHOM’s PROMs focus on a patient’s subjective quality of life and functional recovery. It is a key metric used by Mayo Clinic, Johns Hopkins, and since 2024, is a critical component of Statista and Newsweek’s World's Best Hospital rankings.
