The National Development Council (NDC) announced on December 10 that Taiwan is actively transforming its healthcare policy to address the challenges of a super-aged society. The goal is to leverage digital technology and Artificial Intelligence (AI) to build a proactive, early-warning, and real-time intervention health system across all age groups and environments.
Key Strategic Developments:
- AI New Ten Major Constructions: NDC Minister Yie-Chun Hsien emphasized that AI empowerment is central to the "Balanced Taiwan" vision, aiming for medical equity between urban and rural areas. This initiative focuses on AI governance, cybersecurity, and data interoperability standards.
- Five Pillars of Healthcare Reform: Chen Chih-hung, Vice Chairman of the Healthy Taiwan Promotion Committee, outlined the core pillars: National Cancer Control, Prevention of the "Three Highs" (hypertension, hyperglycemia, hyperlipidemia), Mental Health Strengthening, Smart Medical Systems, and NHI Sustainability.
- Three Major AI Centers: To address challenges in cybersecurity and data fragmentation, the Ministry of Health and Welfare (MOHW) is establishing:
