Taiwan’s Mackay Hospital is sending the first Asian medical team to Ukraine on Monday (17 Apr.) night. Mackay’s International Medical Center Director Tsai Wei-te (蔡維德) will be leading a team of medical professionals to offer pro bono assistance and education to Ukrainian mobile hospitals.
The team includes 11 members consisting of several general or family medicine physicians, an ENT surgeon, a gastroenterologist, an ICU specialist, two general surgeons, and four emergency care physicians.
Tsai says the team will be offering spiritual assistance in addition to physical care, since Mackay is a Christian hospital. He adds that this may be helpful for wounded local residents.
Tsai says Mackay’s medical mission is the first personnel team in Asia to go to Ukraine. He adds that the hospital has provided international assistance for more than 20 years, but this mission has received extra attention due to the situation’s sensitivity.
