Chang Gung Memorial Hospital to build smart ward in Malaysia
2024-01-19

In line with the government's New Southbound Policy, Chang Gung Memorial Hospital (CGMH) has been actively working on healthcare and industry development, and with the support of the Ministry of Health and Welfare and Medical Excellence Taiwan (MET), has recently successfully facilitated the cooperation with Mahkota Medical Centre (Mahkota), Melaka, under the HMI Group, bringing together Taiwan's Landseed International Hospital (Landseed) to assist in the planning of a smart ward project. Landseed will assist in the planning and CGMH will be responsible for staff training, marking yet another milestone for Taiwan's medical technology to increase its global presence.

According to CGMH, the first phase of the project will assist Mahkota in planning the hospital information management system infrastructure and hardware needed to improve the efficiency through real-time access to medical records, thereby improving the overall quality of care. In the second phase, Mahkota will purchase hospital equipment from Taiwan that will benefit Taiwanese companies and their business footprint in the APAC region.

CGMH has established partnerships in Malaysia since 2019 under the Southbound Policy framework. Over the years, CGMH has trained 436 medical personnel from ASEAN nations (both online and onsite), signed 34 memoranda of understanding with local healthcare providers, facilitated 30 visits between officials of the two sides, organised 41 symposiums and 41 public-facing information sessions, and partnered with more than 86 Taiwanese companies.

In January 2023, CGMH established the Taiwan Advance MedTech Centre (TAMC), the largest one-stop demonstration site in Penang, Malaysia, and invited HMI Group to participate in the event, which enabled CGMH to build a bridge between Taiwanese companies and Malaysian hospitals. In March of the same year, CGMH held a three-day workshop for the management team of Mahkota and Regency Specialist Hospital, where CGMH shared its expertise and experience in hospital operations and management, medical quality, patient safety and management, infection control, AI development, smart health promotion and information management to deepen bilateral ties between the two countries.

Together with Landseed, this smart ward project is not only an important achievement for CGMH in the New Southbound cooperation, but also an affirmation of Taiwan's medical technology in the region. This case has not only created tens of millions of business opportunities, but also unlimited business opportunities in the future, and we look forward to bringing more innovations and breakthroughs to Malaysia's healthcare sector, and benefiting more patients.
